Current RPG projects

Right now I find myself split between 2 LARPs I am writing, and hope in my college years to playtest and maybe attempt publishing.

Animondo: A cartoon fantasy genre LARP that, as it sounds, takes place in a cartoon world where everything that can happen does happen.  7 classes, 9 races, and 15 areas in the in-game world based on elements derived from cartoons like Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, and Dick Dastardley and Muttley, to name a few.  I intend this to be a game where players control the action and the GMs primarily act as, well, GMs - enforcing the rules of the game.  This game has been in development on - and - off since Fall of 2008.

My goal for this game is to fix it up, since a lot of skills seem a little confusing in regards to how they operate, and publish it along with a GM's Guide on running it.

My other project has no title yet.  This game focuses around the exploits and struggles of a psionic humanoid race that has sought refuge on a war torn planet after centuries of prosecution by the very human race that created it.  Right now I'm in the process of flushing out the storyline, I've been working on combat mechanics, skills, classes, and the like on - and - off for about 1/2 a year now and hope to eventually play test it with my friends at Westchester Community College before I graduate in 2 years [roughly].

Between these two games, my college classes [computer science major], and part time work I'm surprised I don't pop from all this work.

2 and 3/4 years ago

It was almost 3 years ago that I first got into a role playing game of any significant type, 2 and 3/4 years ago to be exact, yet it feels like only yesterday.  Before this time I had never tried any type of role playing game, having only seen parodies or references in my favorite TV shows.

My involvement with role playing games began my first semester at SUNY Purchase, fall 2007.  One night in early October, I was traversing the Humanities building at Purchase in hopes of reaching the student center [affectionately known as the stood] for a game of Arkanoid.  It was while walking through the building when I noticed a bunch of people standing by the main staircase, talking about something that I didn't quite understand at the time.  Near them were odd padded bat-like objects.  Curious, I interrupted politely and inquired about what it was they were doing.

It was what was known as a live action role playing game, or LARP.  Basically, instead of sitting around with sheets of paper and dice like you would do with a tabletop game [think D&D], and describing your character's actions to a DM you played them out.  Combat was settled not with dice but with boffer fighting - sparring with padded sticks called boffers.

The following week I created my character for the game I had witnessed. Percival Beavis Ironforger, a humble Dwarf who had an itching to kick some ass.  Not even a month later, he would become a clumsy dwarf who killed himself and others around him with some frequency.  Oh joy.  Oh well, I did have a lot of fun for most of the time I played, ESPECIALLY once he learned fire magic and could burn down fortresses.

From there, my interest in RPGs, especially LARPs, increased.  Rivalries [between other games], attempts to start my own games, and everything in between would mark the 2 years that followed, as my life at Purchase unfolded, and only serve to involve me further in this unusual, fun and rather expensive hobby.  Nowadays it is difficult to keep this going, mainly because of my current college [and the difficulty in starting a club for LARPing there], but I like challenges plus what would I have to write about here if I didn't try to keep it [my interest in LARP and role playing games in general] up?
